Dear Parents of current & former lacrosse players,
Registration for our Spring Season is NOW OPEN!! If you have not yet enrolled your player for the spring 2020 season, please take a moment to do so now. It helps us immensely with communication & planning to have an early headcount. Register online at https://www.avonlacrosse.club/Default.aspx?tabid=2120956 . We would like to get as many of our athletes registered by February 16th as we can so we can start assigning youth coaches and getting uniforms sized!
2020 FEE REDUCTION!!
In case you missed the previous email, our registration fees are down from last year! We also updated our payment plans! What does that mean? It means that you can register TODAY, reserving your child’s spot on the team, and choose to spread the cost of enrollment over three installments!
Program/ Registration FAQs:
1. What information do I need to have for registration?
ALL PLAYERS MUST have a valid US Lacrosse membership to participate. If you do not yet have one, go to www.uslacrosse.org to obtain one. The 12-digit membership ID# is required during our online registration.
(USL Membership Cost - $30/youth, $35 / High School)
2. What division will my child participate in?
Indiana Youth Lacrosse Association follows segmentation guidelines for Boys and Girls Youth lacrosse from US Lacrosse. These guidelines were implemented with player safety as the most important consideration. With these guidelines, there will be a strict adherence to the birth date boundaries and “playing up” will not be allowed. ALL players will play for their appropriate team regardless of their school grade.
10U (closely matching 3rd/4th grade) – those players born between 8/31/2011 and 9/1/2009
12U (closely matching 5th/6th grade) – those players born between 8/31/2009 and 9/1/2007
14U (closely matching 7th/8th grade) – those players born between 8/31/2007 and 9/1/2005
*Any 8th grade student born prior to 9/1/2005 will be granted a waiver to play for the 14U team since they are not eligible to play for any high school teams in this state.
3. What about uniforms?
All girls and NEW players will receive a new uniform for the 2020 season! Please provide size information during the registration process. Normal shirt and short sizes will be fine for lacrosse uniform sizing. We will have sizing sessions in February to confirm sizes entered during registration.
RETURNING Youth Boys are on year 2 of a two-year uniform cycle and will use their current uniform.
If you have lost a piece or there has been significant growth since last season, please reach out and we will discuss replacement options.
Plus - the cost of uniforms is included in the registration fee this year!
4. What about your coaches?
All of our awesome coaches maintain a valid US Lacrosse Coaching Certification, are SafeSport Certified, and have passed strict background checks through US Lacrosse before engaging with our players. Most of our coaches started as parent volunteers, who learned the sport as a parent helper or assistant coach.
However…Avon Lacrosse is ALWAYS in need of new youth lacrosse coaches. US Lacrosse provides a training program including online lessons as well as classroom/on-field training to teach new coaches the basic fundamentals of lacrosse and how to teach those fundamentals to new or nearly new players. This training certification program can be started at any time with the online component and the on-field training class will be offered in the Indianapolis area on February 22nd!
If you sign up to be a coach, Avon Lacrosse will reimburse the cost of the US Lacrosse adult membership ($55)! Background checks are included in membership. US Lacrosse provided training classes are also reimbursed for ALL our volunteer coaches at the completion of the season.
Nearly every youth program in this area fields teams with a coaching staff of parents - most of whom have never played lacrosse. Lacrosse programs cannot survive without parent volunteer coaches... and previous lacrosse experience is NOT required. We are especially in need of 5th/ 6th grade and 7th/ 8th grade parents for our Girls 12U/ 14U teams who can learn the game this year as an assistant coach and would be interested in leading the team in 2021!
